Lifestyle Changes for Dry Skin Treatment

by Lisel Torgerson

Dry skin is usually not a major problem. However, it can make your skin tight and uncomfortable and lead to premature wrinkles.

When dry skin manifests in one of its serious forms, it can lead to disfiguring and, consequently, self-esteem problems. Fortunately, most dry skin problems stem from environmental factors and can be controlled, partially or completely. This article will deal with lifestyle changes you can make and natural remedies you can use to treat your dry skin problems.

Changes in Your Lifestyle

You can make several changes to help deal with dry skin. They are very simple, trouble-free changes that will not disrupt your daily routine.

Lifestyle Change 1 - Moisturizing Dry Skin Naturally

Moisturizing is an essential part of dry skin health. Apply thick moisturizers when you skin is still damp. Do not let your skin dry completely.

You may also want to use cosmetics and skin treatment products that contain moisturizers. If your skin is extremely dry try using oils instead of lotions. Oil has more staying power and will prevent water from evaporating from the surface of your skin.

Lifestyle Change 2 - Knowing when to Moisturize Dry Skin

Apply moisturizes right after bathing. Pat your skin damp with a towel and apply your favorite moisturizer. This method will help trap moisture on the surface of your skin.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Use a Humidifier

Hot, dry air can dry out your sensitive skin and worsen the itching and flaking. A humidifier will add moisture to the air inside your home. Maintain your humidifier to defend against bacteria and fungi.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Take a look at your Wardrobe

If you use the wrong type of fabric you can actually worsen your dry skin. Try to pick natural fibers like cotton and silk that will allow your skin to breathe. Wool and other animal fibers might irritate your skin even if they are definitely natural fibers.

The detergents that you use to wash your clothes should be dye- and perfume-free. Both dyes and perfumes can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Homemade Remedies and Natural Moisturizers for Dry Skin

High quality oils (olive oil, for example) are extremely good natural moisturizers. High quality oils can be used separately or in different combinations.

Also, there are a wide range of homemade remedies that can help deal with dry skin.

For example, place 2 tablespoon of oats in a pan and add 1 tablespoon of honey with a little bit of water. Warm up the mixture a little and place directly on your skin. Try it on your hands first if you are unsure of the results and wipe away with a warm, moist towel after a few minutes.

Bio skin care is a good way to deal with dry skin. By incorporating a few lifestyle changes and adding a natural moisturizer to your skin care routine, you can bring relief to your dry skin.
